Tuesday 2nd February

Today we would like you to think about numbers up to 10. Most children in Nursery are confident counting to 10 but some children are unsure of matching the numeral to the amount ( the number 10 - 10 objects ).

We would like you to print out the number cards and jumble them up. Start with the numeral cards ( 1 - 10 , not the pictures )

How confident is your child placing these in order from 1 to 10? Then introduce the picture cards. Can the children match up the pictures with the numeral? You can start at 1 and work our way up, or you can jumble all the numerals and all the pictures up.

When you feel your child is confident recognising any numeral card you can use them to play pairs. Place all the numeral cards facedown so you cannot see the number in one pile and all the picture card in another pile face down with none of the pictures showing. Take it in turns to turn over a numeral card and then a picture card , do they match? How can you check? Children may need to count the amount on the picture. Encourage them to put their finger on each picture as they count aloud!
