Today we would like you to think about our topic - People who help us.
Print out the people who help us word mat and talk with your child about the different jobs. Ask you child -
1. What is this person's job?
2. Where do they work?
3. What do they do?
There will be some jobs that children are not familiar with so stop and talk about the different types of jobs. Why do these people help us? What would happen if these people weren't there to help us?
When you have had a good talk about these jobs ask your child what they would like to be when they grow up. Use the print out sheet and ask your child to draw a picture of themselves in the thought bubble of the job they would like to do.
As a fun listening task - Print out the 'People who help us' bingo game boards and cards. Cut the cards up and place into a bag that you can pick out without the child seeing. Say the name on the card 'e.g' police person. If they have it on their board they can put the card on top. Keep going until they have covered their board with all their cards and shout bingo!
You can play this game against others in your house. You don't have to use the cards to place on top - to make the game harder, use blocks or another kind of marker and when you pull the picture out of the bag do not show the children , just say the name of the job. If the child has it they can mark their person with a lego block or something else small. You will know which jobs you have called out because of the pile of cards that are out of the bag.
